A group of 8 Long Island professional athletes left from Canada Sunday early morning as part of an 8-day trip, that will bring them back to Long Island.
That’s an approximately 600-mile journey throughout New York State, comparable to almost 80 miles a day.
“We’re going to bike through into the U.S., down through Albany on the Empire path, ultimately we’ll snake our method into Connecticut and after that take the ferryboat over into Port Jefferson,” said cyclist Victor Fassano of Centereach.
“There’s a great deal of hills which’ll use us out, however we’re good to opt for this, we drive ourselves hard for this and we have actually been doing this for 3 years,” said cyclist Bill Ude of Mastic.
Puppy Ride Long Island raises money and awareness for ‘The Seeing Eye’ in Morristown, New Jersey, which is the oldest existing guide dog school in the United States.
“Just the entire idea of ‘The Seeing Eye,’ where they do not charge any of the receivers anything,” said cyclist David DuBois of Coram. “It’s all offered to them so, our contribution goes a long method.”
This trip for ‘The Seeing Eye’ is personal for among the members, Jim Freiss. His late sibling John, benefited considerably from his dog hero, and he wished to honor him.
“He wished to do something to return and to promote both that organization and what they do,” cyclist Bill Gironda said. “It offered him self-confidence to do more things and go more locations without needing to fret about all the important things that someone that has that handicap would need to do.”
