Residents in Detroit, Michigan, were utilized to seeing a German shepherd saunter around their area with her tail wagging from time to time. The senior dog, later on called Nikki, might normally be discovered walking consistently by her owner’s side, and she’d gladly welcome everybody who went by. But, one day, they identified her roaming the streets alone, and their hearts immediately sank.

“Unfortunately, her owner passed away,” Gail Montgomery, cofounder and director of Almost Home Animal Rescue Leagueinformed The Dodo. “So she just started walking around on her own with her stuffie.”

In the middle of her heartbreak, the puppy holds on to a huge, luxurious toy for convenience. The German shepherd brought it around dutifully anywhere she went and declined to drop it under any situation.

“Typically, a dog who’s a stray wouldn’t hold on to a stuffie. They wouldn’t put anything in their mouths, they would just look for food,” Montgomery said. “But this was her security.”

The sweet puppy walked her area for weeks, intending to discover a family once again. Her next-door neighbors set out food and water as they attempted to get in touch with the right organization to rescue the dog, till they got ahold of somebody at South Lyon Murphy Lost Animal Recovery.

After a couple of beating days of stopped working efforts, the rescue group at South Lyon Murphy lastly caught the dog. Even as they filled her up into their van, she declined to let go of her treasured stuffie.

“She felt like that was her comfort and her security,” Montgomery said. “It’s like she thinks that’s her binky.”

Shortly after her rescue, the dog strolled into Almost Home Animal Rescue League’s head office with her cherished stuffie in tow. Both Nikki and the stuffie remained in rough shape when they arrived, however their brand-new good friends at Almost Home were figured out to make them both feel good as brand-new.

While a veterinarian group analyzed Nikki, her good friends at the shelter got to work restoring her toy.

“It was extremely dirty and a total mess with rips in it and stuff like that,” Montgomery said. “We washed it, sewed it up and we gave it back to her.”

Exhausted from her examination, which revealed that she was struggling with heartworm, Nikki couldn’t wait to snuggle with her brand-new stuffie. Her good friends at Almost Home positioned the toy on the ground, and she right away cuddled up to it.

“She was so weak, so she’d just sleep on it,” Montgomery said.

Nikki’s story began to spread out, and quickly complete strangers was sending out the good woman a couple of unique presents.

“Everybody’s sending stuffies to her now,” Montgomery said. “We’ve got, like, a million of them!”

It warmed Montgomery’s heart to see the profusion of love for Nikki. The devoted rescuer enjoys every dog she can be found in contact with, however, to her, Nikki is unique.

“This dog is the sweetest dog you’ll ever meet in your life, and I’ve been doing this for 23 years,” Montgomery said. “There’s just something about her. I love her so much.”

“She’s with a wonderful foster care family,” Montgomery said. “They’re so enamored with her.”

Montgomery now gets routine update photos of Nikki at home with her foster family. She misses out on getting to see the puppy cuddle with her stuffie face to face, however Mongtomery’s thrilled to understand that Nikki now has more toys than ever previously.
