GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Dozer, a Grand Rapids police canine severely injured in a hit-and-run crash, is making nice progress in his journey to restoration.
The injured K9 began bodily remedy in August – about two weeks after a crash left Dozer with paralysis in his hind legs. Veterinarians stated his spinal twine is undamaged.
The Grand Rapids Police Department delivered one other update on Friday, Oct. 6, relating to Dozer’s progress.
“We still don’t know if he will regain enough agility and stamina to return to duty yet,” the division stated in a Facebook post. “For now, we are happy to see him back on his own four feet.”
“We very much appreciate all the good thoughts sent his way.”
The division additionally shared images Dozer’s visits at bodily remedy. In one photograph, Dozer is pictured having fun with a calming therapeutic massage whereas donning a spiffy pair of sun shades.
The crash occurred round 3 a.m. on Aug. 4 as a Grand Rapids officer was heading to a housebreaking in progress.
The officer was headed south on Madison Avenue SE, with lights and sirens activated, and slowed to almost a crawl for a crimson gentle at Hall Street.
At that time, the cruiser was struck broadside by the westbound SUV, which police estimated was touring at 75-80 mph.
The officer was pinned within the cruiser and Dozer was pushed out of the cruiser when a rear door partially popped open.
The division stated it can proceed to maintain the general public up to date on Dozer’s restoration.
