Glasgow canine refuge “absolutely inundated” with requests to take XL Bullies from England as clampdown set to kick in

SCOTTISH pet rescue charities are being swamped with XL Bully dogs forward of recent English guidelines which is able to see a tricky crackdown on the breed on the finish of this month.

From December 31, it will likely be unlawful in England and Wales to promote, abandon, breed from, or give away an American XL bully.

It may even be unlawful to walk one in public and not using a lead and a muzzle, as proudly owning one with out an exemption certificates will probably be outlawed south of the border from February.

Kellyanne Shaw, 38 from All Bullie Charity Rescue Glasgow has stepped in after many animal shelters in Scotland shut their doorways to the breed.

She advised the Scottish Sun: “We’re completely inundated, I can’t even reply to all people, there’s simply too many messages, emails and cellphone calls.

“It has been heartbreaking watching owners who loved their dogs being forced to give them up.”

But Kellyanne, of Drumchapel, says many Scots are lining as much as undertake the deserted canines in response to the ban.

She added: “People are simply making an attempt to assist, we’re seeing the rehoming improve as a result of individuals don’t agree with the ban.

“They are getting in touch wanting to be able to save a dog and offer a lifeline.”

The Scottish SSPSA mentioned individuals want to evaluate the homeowners, not the dogs over their behaviour – as Scotland gives a refuge for the pups as a substitute of placing them to sleep.

They mentioned: For thirty-two years the Dangerous Dogs Act has confirmed ineffective in lowering canine bites and assaults.

“With more and more pets in Scotland, we believe the focus has to be on putting more responsibility on owners.”

But those that assist a ban argue that Scotland is making a mistake.

Doug Smith, from Bully Watch UK, says: “The Scottish authorities has consulted on harmful dogs for over three years and has not lifted a finger.

“We are baffled that they’ve determined to not act.”

Scottish Conservative shadow justice secretary Russell Findlay MSP mentioned the Scottish Government is risking lives by not following go well with.

He mentioned: “The SNP are risking lives with their silly blocking of a UK-wide ban.

“They have recklessly ignored warnings that this might be exploited with dogs coming to Scotland, as we at the moment are seeing.

“It is shameful that they are playing constitutional games instead of prioritising public safety.”

Scottish Liberal Democrat Wendy Chamberlain MP mentioned: “It’s clear that XL bullies are a dangerous breed and sensible action is needed.”

The Scottish authorities says: “Scotland already has a dog control notice regime that applies to all dogs and is focused on preventing dog attacks from happening in the first place.”
