A girl was charged with animal cruelty and assault and battery on a police officer after she was seen beating up her canine close to Boston Common on Tuesday, police mentioned.
Around 840 p.m. officers heard a crying canine and have been informed by passersby {that a} girl was beating a canine within the space of 131 Tremont St., police mentioned.
As officers approached they noticed Jasmine Velasquez, 26, of Boston, kick the canine, police mentioned.
“Officers were able to quickly separate the suspect from the dog, and moved the dog to a safe location as there was broken glass and unknown liquid on the ground,” police mentioned in a press release.
Witnesses reported that she had punched, kicked, and hit the canine with a glass bottle, police mentioned.
Velasquez informed officers that the canine was her service canine and had bitten her earlier, based on a police report.
Velasquez was arraigned Wednesday in Boston Municipal Court and pleaded not responsible. A pretrial listening to is scheduled for Dec. 18, courtroom information present.
Animal Control took custody of the Australian cattle canine, police mentioned.
