FOLSOM – A leading dog expecting leading honors at the Westminster Dog Show next month was born and reproduced in Folsom.
Beau is a Mastiff of Bordeaux, or French mastiff, who’s almost 4.
Owner Joy Santacera and Beau are prepping for their very first journey to the 147th yearly Westminster Dog Show May 6-9 in New York City.
“It’s definitely an honor to be able to contend in Westminster,” Santacera said.
You need to be leading 5 of your breed, making points at numerous programs, to get a welcome.
Beau is a natural.
“He understands when it’s time,” Santacera said. “He feels in one’s bones what to do.”
It’s sort of paradoxical at 4’11” that Santacera would desire a 120-pound dog.
“The breed was in fact my ex-boyfriend’s preferred,” Santacera said.
She dumped the man however kept the initial dog Bella, Beau’s mama.
“I had a red convertible and I desired a dog that looked good with the car,” Santacera said.
Beau was among 9 puppies. Joy quickly needed to sell her convertible for a mini-van – and upgrade her way of life.
She invests thousands on care, upkeep, and dog reveals each weekend.
“It’s a luxurious dog bath,” Santacera said.
As we sat and talked, it was clear Beau understands how to take the program.
Joy hopes that equates into more wins and more money from stud costs, which can run $4-5,000.
“With him, he is a ‘black mask.’ He is what the Dogue de Bordeau would think about uncommon.”
The breed utilized centuries ago for hunting bears is now hunting for a best-in-breed on an around the world phase.
