MARATHON, Fla. – A 36-year-old Marathon man was apprehended Friday after he punched and choked a lap dog, authorities said.
According to Adam Linhardt, a representative for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were contacted us to a residence on Sombrero Beach Road around 8:20 p.m. where several witnesses reported Osiel Rodriguez-Gonzalez was upset and began cursing at the dog.
Witnesses informed deputies that they later on saw Rodirguez-Gonzalez punching the dog along with grabbing and choking it by the neck.
Authorities said one witness mentioned the dog ranged from Rodriguez-Gonzalez and under a car that was going by.
According to Linhardt, the driver stopped and got the dog, however Rodriguez-Gonzalez tugged the dog by its throat from the driver.
Deputies said after reaching the home, they kept in mind the dog was noticeably shaking and seemed concealing from Rodriguez-Gonzalez.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was informed to take a look at the dog, which did not seem struggling with any major injuries, according to Linhardt.
Rodriguez-Gonzalez was required to prison and is dealing with one count of animal cruelty.
His bond was set at $75,000.
