A 6-year-old boy passed away after he was assaulted by the family dog, authorities in Florida said Wednesday.
Police officers in the city of North Port, in Sarasota County, hurried to a home on the 2700 block of Badger Lane on Tuesday around 10:30 a.m. after reports of a dog bite, authorities said. The injured boy was flown to a health center with “comprehensive distressing injuries.” He was then moved to a 2nd medical facility, where he passed away.
The dog, a 3-year-old pit bull mix, was taken by the Sarasota County Animal Services, authorities said. The boy and the dog cohabited in the exact same home. Police do not understand of any previous occurrences including the dog’s habits.
“Our hearts are broken for this young kid and his family,” North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison said. “As a daddy and family pet owner, I understand this is among the worst catastrophes you can picture.”
There have actually been a number of lethal dog attacks throughout the U.S. this year. In May, a lady was killed and an 8-year-old kid was hurt in a dog attack in Indiana. In Iowa, a child was killed and a female was seriously hurt previously in May.
Dog attacks in Louisiana and Idaho in January left kids dead. In February, a man in his 80s was killed and 3 others were hurt in a Texas dog attack. A Pennsylvania lady passed away after she was assaulted by a next-door neighbor’s dog in March.
