Dog energy will probably be featured this weekend when the annual Flathead Classic sled canine race takes place at Dog Creek Lodge and Nordic Center close to Onley.

The distinctive occasion that features sled races, skijor races and bikejor races runs Feb. 24 and Feb. 24. The occasion begins at 9 a.m. on each days.

Competitions embrace a six-dog class, four-dog class, one- and two-dog skijoring and one- and two-dog bikejoring, and pee wee races.

Six-dog sled groups will race about 18 miles, whereas the four-dog groups will race 5 and a half miles. Skijoring groups will race between 2 and a half and 5 and a half miles.

Skijoring consists of a skier on skate skis and a hip belt being pulled by a sled canine. Bikejoring is driving a motorcycle being pulled by a sled canine.

The weekend begins on Saturday at 9 a.m. with the two-dog skijoring, adopted by the six-dog groups leaving the beginning chute at 9:30 a.m. and four-dog groups leaving at 10 a.m. The one-dog skijor begins at 11:30 a.m. adopted by the bikejoring races starting at midday.

All the races proceed on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. The awards ceremony is about for 1 p.m. or when all occasions are accomplished.

Food and drinks will probably be available to buy, together with a silent public sale and race merchandise.

The public is invited to come back to the race. There is restricted parking at Dog Creek Lodge and Nordic Center so attendees are requested to carpool and to go away their dogs at home.
