CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Three puppies were amongst the 5 dogs that were rescued from a locked storage system in Cape Coral on Friday early morning.

The Cape Coral Police Department (CCPD) was contacted us to the X-S Storage on SE 9th Terrace after the supervisor of the center believed they heard dogs inside among the systems.

When officers began to open the overhead door on the system, they supposedly heard roaring prior to 3 puppies made their escape. Officers then discovered 2 adult dogs, a male and a female idea to be the moms and dads of the puppies, inside also.

“Some people, they just don’t have any morals,” Matt Gabel said. “I treat dogs like they are humans because they show us unconditional love.”

Where they were discovered was anything but loving.

When police started to open the door, officers say they heard growling before the puppies came running out of the unit.

“Awe man. They’re adorable. Golly,” Caleb Cornelius said.

They’re cute and cuddly, but were also being held caprice in a smoldering hot storage unit. Just ask Nogel Noel. He owns a unit in the same building.

“No AC. There’s a lightbulb and outlet,” Noel said. “Hot. I mean, we’re in there working right now and I’m sweating. You couldn’t survive in there. Absolutely not. That’s insane.”

“Coming from a dog lover, it’s not right,” Cornelius added.

While officers aren’t 100% sure, they think that someone may have possibly been spending the night in the unit or fully living here.

Noel hasn’t seen that, but he heard what he idea were dogs whimpering and whining about a week ago.

“I was like, ‘Is that a dog? He said, ‘Is that a dog?’ And we wasn’t too sure.”

CCPD has not been able to track down the owner of the unit just yet. In the meantime, Lee County Domestic Animal Services has taken custody of the dogs and is heading the investigation.

No charges have been filed, however some believe those dogs shouldn’t return to the individual who put them there in the very first location.

“It’s inhumane. I mean, you don’t do that to a live creature at all. Period,” Cornelius said. I don’t care if it’s a goldfish. Honestly, I suggest they ought to absolutely lose the dogs. Without a doubt.”
