As the weather condition gets milder and we head into a long bank vacation weekend, absolutely nothing sounds much better than going out and about in the Lake District.
Just past the well-known Ashness Bridge, climb up the hill to the right from the roadway to experience the benefits of Surprise View, set down high up on an oak-lined cliff edge ignoring the entire of Derwentwater. You’ll have the ability to see scenic views from the top of Bassenthwaite and Derwentwater.
This 3 mile family walk takes in Ashness Bridge, Surprise View and Lodore Falls. What is even much better seeks this walk you can unwind in a family-run, dog-friendly pub.

- You can park in the National Trust Ashness Bridge parking lot
-
Walk up the roadway, up until you reach Surprise View on the right-hand man side.
-
But the view throughout Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite, towards Skiddaw is stunning.
-
Continue walking along the roadway for around 300 metres and you’ll see an unmarked path to the right. Take this path all the way down.
-
Be careful because it is steep in places.
-
Towards the end the path takes a left turn and you will eventually appear at Lodore Falls.
-
You can stop in any of the pubs along the way or continue along, on the roadside path for a little bit, until you cross the roadway at Kettlewell car park.
-
You can take the course around the edge of the water up until you reach the Watendlath roadway on your right (opposite the jetty). Stay on the roadway, which goes almost back on itself and stroll uphill to your car at Ashness Bridge.
