CHARLOTTE — With the heat index in the Carolinas striking triple digits, it’s important for both individuals and family pets to remain safe.
According to specialists, dogs release and keep heat in a different way than human beings. So it’s important for their owners to understand how to take care of their paws in severe temperature levels.
Channel 9 meteorologist Madi Baggett took a seat with the owner of PetBAR, Kassandra Patterson, who shared grooming pointers to keep your four-legged friend cool this summer season.

“Brushing, making sure that you’re removing that dead hair, debris from having dog walks with your dog, bathing as well, making sure you’re thoroughly drying your dog,” Patterson said.
Patterson likewise said it’s important to cut your dog’s nails and clear out their ears to avoid germs accumulation.
The hottest hours of the day tend to be in between 2 and 6 p.m.; it might be too hot for your dog to even be outdoors.
Just keep in mind, if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your dog.
