Escaped Romanian rescue canine Oscar dies within the Lake District

One-year-old Oscar was a Golden retriever combine rescued from Romania that was dropped at England on September 9. He was within the care of a household in Kirkby-in-Furness till September 20, when he escaped after opening a window. 

Oscar’s proprietor Rosie Coward contacted Mackenzie Leder from Kenzie’s K9’s Animal Search and Rescue Team (also called Kenzie’s K9s). Ms Leder stated that Oscar had had little or no human contact and that he was in ‘survival mode’ so couldn’t be caught by hand. 

For the following month, the workforce tried to carry Oscar home by establishing a humane lure with kidneys, tripe and sausage. There have been a number of occasions Oscar appeared able to take the bait, and Ms Coward stated that Oscar may have been caught if he had yet another day.

Tragically, on Thursday, October 26 Oscar received caught on a cliff face after which fell to his loss of life. The animal search and rescue workforce stated that this was close to Wrynose and Hardnott move. 

Mackenzie Leder stated {that a} mountain rescue workforce had been dispatched to try to save Oscar, however was spooked when he noticed the crew members above him. She stated he died immediately. 

Ms Coward stated she was ‘completely devasted’: “Not the end result all of us have been praying for. He’s had a mega journey for the final month. Kenzie’s canines have been wonderful, out on a regular basis setting feeding stations and traps. Sadly being so scared of individuals he is ran and ran.”

Kenize’s K9s is a bunch of volunteers from Egremont, which meant that they needed to journey an hour to achieve the world. Ms Coward expressed her want for a south Cumbria ‘Oscar division’ of the workforce named in his reminiscence. 

She put an enchantment on Facebook for volunteers to start out south Cumbria’s first animal search and rescue workforce. This would come with an administrator, searchers and other people with information of easy methods to arrange traps and to fundraise. 

She stated: “The extra volunteers now we have the higher it is going to be, searching for one another’s animals.”
