Dogs can consume some odd things, however one specifically perplexing snack of option is yard. Why dogs pick to munch on yard isn’t precisely understood.
“Sometimes when animals are nauseous, they are more likely to eat grass, but not always,” Maria Verbrugge, a medical trainer of medical care at the UW School of Veterinary Medicine, said on a recent episode of Wisconsin Public Radio’s The Larry Meiller Show. “Dogs are scavengers so it’s not uncommon for them to try things.”
So, if your dog typically consumes yard, it is not an instant cause for alarm.
However, if consuming yard is a brand-new habits for your dog, it might indicate something else is incorrect.
“If it’s a new behavior, it may indicate a change in your dog’s health,” Verbrugge says. Consider if there have actually been other modifications in your animal’s habits or day-to-day routines, particularly other dietary modifications and if so, consult your vet.
