Shiba Inus Suki and Ron are ‘married’ by Shannon Andreas in Madison, Wisconsin
Though the venue — aptly referred to as the Boneyard — was coated with snow, it was nonetheless a stupendous day in Madison, Wisconsin, for Shiba Inu canine friends Suki and Ron, who “married” in a ceremony on March 23, National Puppy Day.
“It was a wonderful, happy, funny experience,” says Suki’s proprietor Erika Eisman, 45. “Both dogs said, ‘I Roo!’ ”
The pups met on-line in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, seeing one another on a Shiba Prom Zoom.
“His charming, forlorn-sweet facial features warmed her coronary heart,” says Eisman of Ron. Though she and Suki are Madison residents and Ron and his household dwell in Columbus, Ohio, the dogs “are going to proceed their long-distance romance,” Eisman provides.

Shiba Prom is an all-volunteer organization primarily based in Chicago that has raised greater than $100,000 to help Shiba Inu dogs rescued from unfavorable conditions since 2012.
At Suki and Ron’s wedding ceremony, supporters and pals had been remembering Alisa Gaylon, a founding member and former board treasurer of Shiba Prom, who died from most cancers in January.

“It was so extremely stated,” says Eisman. “We needed to honor her reminiscence. In 2013, she held an in-person canine wedding ceremony for her Shiba, Zenji, at a fundraiser for a neighborhood Shiba rescue. That’s how we received the thought to do a canine wedding ceremony, and lift money for Shiba Prom.”

Though hearts had been heavy, the temper was gentle on the wedding ceremony, as Suki walked down the aisle to “She’s Your Queen” from the film Coming to America, carrying a gown with a lace bodice, tulle and satin skirt and lace veil, complemented with a fake diamond necklace. Suki’s littermate Mika served as maid of honor, standing by her aspect in a pink canine gown.
Shiba Prom president Shannon Andreas drove in from central Pennsylvania and officiated the ceremony, which included a conventional Jewish breaking of the glass and a rousing “Muzzle Tov!”
Treats included do-it-yourself “pupcakes” from native retailer Petphoria, and “pictures” of bone broth. The get together continued with playtime at a neighborhood canine park.
Says Eisman: “It was a huge success.”
