A DOG walker and their pet have been rescued on Friday 1 September after being minimize off by the tide once they have been round 200m from the shore close to La Rocque.
The Islander referred to as Jersey Coastguard once they turned stranded, with a spokesperson for the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service saying their ‘quick actions in getting as high as possible and calling for assistance undoubtedly saved their lives’.
Because of the state of the tide on Friday night, the JFRS inshore rescue boat was launched from Seymour slip.
A kayaker stayed with the pair till a vessel within the space was capable of decide them up, at which level they have been transferred to the inshore rescue boat.
The JFRS spokesperson mentioned that ‘thankfully, apart from being cold, wet and a bit shaken’, the casualties have been unhurt.
‘The area was known to the dog walker and they were simply caught out, but this does highlight the importance of having a working mobile phone when out and about in areas below the high-water marks, and letting someone know where you’re going and what time you’re returning.
‘Their quick actions in getting as high as possible and calling for assistance undoubtedly saved their lives. We would also like to commend the actions of the kayaker and passing vessel who both played a major part in this rescue,’ the spokesperson added.
