Dog shot in leg throughout Tuesday night shooting on N. Union Street

NATCHEZ — Late-night shooting on North Union Street in Natchez has actually hurt one dog however no suspects were recognized, authorities said.
Natchez Police Chief Cal Green said several callers reported hearing the gunshots prior to 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. The dog was struck in the leg while out walking with its owner, Green said.
“We don’t know if the dog was shot at on purpose or not,” she said. “The owner wanted to take it to the LSU veterinary clinic with a leg injury. There were several calls from that area. We didn’t see anything else that was hit. Our investigators have gone back looking for shell casings and things of that nature.”
Witnesses reported hearing a minimum of 8 gunshots in the 800 block of N. Union Street on Tuesday night, where somebody’s dog was struck in the leg and instantly hurried to Louisiana State University veterinary healthcare facility for medical attention.
Investigation of the event is still continuous, Green said.
