A vile dog proprietor allowed her pet to starve to dying in a dirty home it ripped to shreds in search of meals, a court heard.

Carrie Hansford, 43, deserted Rocky and left the Staffordshire Bull Terrier to a gradual and painful dying surrounded by large piles of garbage and his personal waste. Eventually, a canine warden broke into her home in Southampton, Hants, with a warrant the place he discovered Rocky’s emaciated and insect-riddled stays.




Animal handler Mark Knight advised how he discovered the 10-year-old surrounded by piles of his personal faeces after he was known as to Hansford’s home. Upon getting into the property, the previous vet nurse mentioned was greeted with an “overwhelming” scent.

“I regarded by the kitchen bench and noticed the emaciated canine on the ground, clearly lifeless. It was very distressing. I used to be a vet for six years and likewise an animal welfare officer and it is without doubt one of the worst circumstances in 10 years I’ve come throughout.

“It is obvious the proprietor supposed to go away the canine to die. She simply might have gotten help and assist and that might’ve given the canine an opportunity. He had no likelihood being locked behind a door with no meals or water.

“There had been ripped packages, ripped the whole lot, in every single place. The canine had been looking for meals and looking for a method to survive. As an animal warden, I’m there for the welfare of animals. I felt uncooked emotion at the moment.”

At Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court, Hants, Hansford was handed a four-month jail sentence suspended for 12 months, alongside a 5 yr ban and 100 hours of unpaid work.
