CHERRY HILL – At a recent ribbon-cutting right here, many in attendance completely ignored the ceremony.

Instead, they wandered aimlessly, interrupted speeches, and often sniffed each other.

But that’s acceptable conduct for the opening of a canine park — on this case, a $775,000 creation of Camden County’s parks division.

“We’re going to make dogs happy, which is what we’re all about,” Jeff Nash, a county commissioner and the proprietor of three dogs, instructed a small crowd in Cooper River Park in Cherry Hill.

In a brief speech, Nash famous the park’s sights: separate fenced areas for large and small dogs, agility tools, a pavilion, benches and a picnic space.

“We’ll also incarcerate certain dogs,” Nash stated to laughter when a barking frenzy threatened to drown out his phrases.

The park, with sprawling inexperienced fields of synthetic turf, replaces an older, smaller facility close to the useless finish of North Park Boulevard.

In addition to uprooting the unique park, employees in the reduction of timber and brush to supply a canine’s-eye view of the adjoining Cooper River.

“This was the worst dog park before, but its community (of dogs and owners) was the best,” stated Edward Maule of Cherry Hill.

“What they’ve done here is great,” he noticed as his canine, Olive, raced throughout a discipline of vivid inexperienced turf.

“This is exactly what we were thinking about, what we hoped for,” stated Thomas Masullo of Collingswood, who advocated for the brand new park.

Having separate areas for dogs of various sizes “means more dogs are going to be able to get out,” he noticed on the April 25 occasion.

“More dogs will get training, and time to be around each other.”

“These are locations the place our group comes collectively,” Masullo stated. “And all of us join on one factor, and that’s the love of our four-legged buddies.”
