Dogs have a newly spruced-up and everlasting play space at Moulton Meadows Park in Laguna Beach.
On Thursday, Feb. 29, dozens of pups and their people checked out the brand new play space that includes new benches, fencing, a brand new panorama, and an asphalt path main alongside the frontage street to the park.
The park is the second location within the metropolis the place the general public can take their dogs to play off-leash in a fenced space. The different is the canine park alongside Laguna Canyon Road.
Laguna Beach is understood for being pet pleasant and has among the many largest numbers of pet possession within the county for a city of its dimension, about 23,000, stated Jim Beres, the Police Department’s civil providers administrator. As of December 2023, there are 1,860 licensed dogs within the metropolis.
“It’s a higher disposable income and easier for residents to own and maintain pets,” he stated.

At 7,500 sq. toes, the brand new park replaces a smaller 4,000-square-foot area that opened in 2019 as a trial. The thought then, stated Tom Perez, assistant director of public works, was to see how a lot group curiosity there was in having the realm available for the neighborhood.
“It was very well received and we made it permanent,” Perez stated, including that residents have been walking by this week excitedly ready for the grand opening.
“People were spirited and lively and the dog energy was high,” Perez stated of Thursday’s debut.
A $300,000 state grant paid for the brand new facilities.
