Dog owners have actually been prompted to keep their animals on a lead after a seal puppy needed to be put down by veterinarians following a believed attack.

The RSPCA is now requiring owners to keep their pet dogs on leads after their veterinarians concluded the seal highly likely lost its life from a dog attack.

Evangelos Achilleos, supervisor of RSPCA East Winch Wildlife Centre, stated: “While we can not be specific regarding what assaulted this bad puppy, it looks possible that this might well have actually been as an outcome of a dog attack.

” Over the last couple of years regretfully we have actually discovered that we have actually had more pups entering our care due to pet dogs assaulting them.

” This bad puppy’s jaw was so fractured it was not lining up, suggesting her injuries were so bad that the kindest thing we might do was to put her to sleep to avoid her suffering even more.

” These kinds of events are an issue particularly as they might be quickly avoided by the public keeping their pet dogs on leads when around seals and not enabling them to get too close.

” We understand that lots of dog owners do keep their pet dogs on lead and we are extremely grateful to them, however we hope that by highlighting this unfortunate event it will help to inform others.”

There were a great deal of shoe prints in the sand around where the puppy was discovered, which is why the RSPCA suspect that the attack might have been triggered by a dog on a walk with its owner instead of another seal.

Mr Achilleos included: “We understand that seals in the wild are an amazing sight to see and individuals wish to get a great view, however please remember they are wild animals who do not wish to be close to people.

” We share our beaches with seals and need to discover to regard nature and delight in from a range, and we must never ever interfere or get too near them, particularly if we have our pet dogs with us.

” The general public are putting themselves, their pet dogs and the seals at danger.

” Adult seals are exceptionally effective wild animals and can offer individuals, consisting of kids, an extremely nasty bite which might end up being contaminated by the germs that reside in a seal’s mouth.

” We hope we can spread out the message motivating dog-owners to keep their dog on a lead if wildlife neighbors.

” And please help the seals by keeping away from them.”
