SAUGERTIES, N.Y. — A Red Maple Road homeowner is dealing with charges after declining to relinquish her “dangerous” dog to officers, Saugerties cops said Friday.
Erika M. Bergen, 38, of 68 Maple Road, town of Saugerties, was apprehended at cops head office on Thursday, March 2, after giving up in the existence of her lawyer, cops said. She was charged with criminal contempt of a court order and blocking governmental administration, both misdemeanors.
On Wednesday, Feb. 15, cops had actually reacted to 626 state Route 212 to help the town dog warden in carrying out an order from the town judge licensing the seizure of a dog “that had been deemed as dangerous by the court,” according to a news release.
Police Chief Joseph Sinagra said Bergen’s dog killed another dog, causing the judge’s judgment that it ought to be given up to the dog warden.
Bergen declined to turn the dog over to the dog warden and officers at the scene encouraged her of the legal implications or her actions if she stopped working to follow the court order, cops said. But Bergen kept her position, causing surcharges, cops said.
Bergen eventually gave up the dog to the dog warden prior to her surrender to cops on March 2.
Bergen was arraigned in Saugerties Town Court and was launched with a March 28 look ticket for Saugerties Town Court.
