Dog only survivor of dreadful rollover crash that killed truck driver, other dog

PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV/Gray News) – A truck driver and a dog were killed Friday early morning after a semitrailer turned over an interstate in Colorado. Another dog was the only survivor of the crash.

According to Colorado State Patrol, the rollover took place around 7 a.m. on Interstate 25 near the town of Pueblo.

First responders showed up to discover the truck severely mangled, with the trailer ripped open and the taxi lying over the bridge.

State Patrol detectives discovered the truck was taking a trip northbound on I-25 when it suddenly diverted off the roadway, striking a post and a guardrail as it continued into the typical. The driver guided right, triggering the vehicle to jackknife.

State Patrol said the semitrailer then went off the overpass bridge and started to roll, lastly coming to rest dangling from the bridge.

The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office shared photos of the crash on Facebook.

The driver, 33-year-old Denzal Stewart of Bryan, Texas, was noticable dead on the scene. Officials said he was using his safety belt.

Stewart was taking a trip with 2 dogs. One passed away on the scene.

Video reveals the enduring dog being rescued from the wreckage by firemens.

The Humane Society in the Pikes Peak area took in the dog and said she appears to just have scratches. Veterinarians are monitoring her, and the shelter is working to reunite the dog with Stewart’s family.

The reason for the crash stays under examination, however State Patrol said speeding, alcohol and drugs are not presumed.
