CLOVIS, California (KFSN) — A dog is being commemorated as a hero for getting up his owner as an RV fire infect neighboring houses in Clovis.
The fire broke out around 3 am on April 28 in a community near Everglade and Sylmar.
Firefighters state the fire began in an RV however rapidly infected the beyond 2 neighboring houses.
As the fire was burning, a 2-year-old Labradoodle called Charlie awakened his owner, Chad McCollum, by grumbling to go outside.
In the yard, Charlie kept barking up until McCollum came outdoors and saw the smoke and flames.
“I walk over to the corner of the yard where he’s barking and I see the plume of smoke up in the sky and kind of an orange glow,” remembered McCollum.
After calling 911, McCollum awakened the next-door neighbors of the affected houses and ensured they got to safety.
Donald Tharpe resides in among your homes that Charlie assisted in saving.
“That saved a lot of us. The dog, if he wouldn’t have barked, both houses would have been torched,” said Tharpe.
The fire required the family in the other house out since of heavy smoke and water damage.
The Clovis Fire Department honored Charlie for his brave deed with his really own medal and a firemen helmet.
“It’s pretty amazing that just one act by an animal, that we love, certainly turned into something that hopefully helped out a couple other people in the neighborhood,” McCollum explained.
The reason for the fire is still under examination.
