ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – The Rockford Fire Department responded to a construction hearth round 3 p.m. Monday on the 1200 block of 4th Avenue.
When crews arrived, they noticed heavy smoke on the primary flooring of the home and a girl escaping from a second-floor window onto the roof.
Firefighters rescued the girl and he or she was taken to a close-by hospital in critical situation. Crews then entered the home.
There was heavy smoke and “zero visibility” on the primary and second flooring. A fireplace was discovered on the primary flooring which precipitated heavy injury to the kitchen space.
Two dogs had been recovered from the home, however just one survived.
The hearth displaced one other person who lived within the home and left an estimated lack of $110,000.
