Officials caught a coyote in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, after it snatched a pet dog from the family’s backyard, per NBC10 Philadelphia. The incident occurred in Marple Township, leading to police warning the residents that another coyote might be in the area. Moreover, police have asked parents to always keep an eye on their small pets and children.

Police issue warning to pet owners after coyote snatches dog in Pennsylvania

The dog snatching incident took place on April 11, when the pet owner’s mom let the Terrier into the family’s backyard. The canine, named Fred, was almost nine years old. The coyote snatched the dog from the backyard in broad daylight and ran into the woods with the little Terrier. The pet owner’s parents were watching Fred on that particular day.

The police warning comes almost a week after the coyote attack, which took place last Thursday. This incident has alarmed residents, with several small dog owners exclaiming that they won’t leave their furry friends on the deck as they used to. Furthermore, the Marple Township Police Chief noted that they have had up to three coyote sightings in the past few days.

Seeing coyotes in areas near a forest is quite common. However, spotting them in residential areas away from the wooded zones is becoming more and more common. They tend to be active during spring when they are out and about collecting food. This is when they are caring for their young and looking for sustenance for their families.

Officials have strictly warned against feeding coyotes in an attempt to tame them. They also recommend not leaving pet food out. If you ever come face to face with one, make loud noises to keep them away. Make sure to let your beloved pets inside the house at night before sleeping.
