Collie puppies deserted on roadside in County Leitrim now available to be rehomed

Earlier this month, Leitrim Animal Welfare Centre obtained a name to absorb 5 collie puppies that have been left deserted on the primary street in Ballinaglera.

The puppies have been taken in by a sort passer-by and dropped at the animal shelter.

On inspection, the puppies have been ravenous and had worms.

After some love and a focus from the workers on the centre, the puppies at the moment are prepared for adoption, together with a number of different collie dogs.

A spokesperson for the charity mentioned the overbreeding of collies is a serious difficulty within the county and one that’s costing the centre 1000’s.

“In just 21 days, we have taken in six adult collies and one collie puppy straying in Leitrim that no one has come forward to reclaim or even apply to adopt and give them their forever home.

“To date, we have 14 collies looking for their forever home.

“The reality for these collies is that they may spend months in our kennels as many are overlooked due to people’s misunderstanding of the breed which is known for their gentle nature, intelligence and loyalty.

“The estimated vet bill for worming, vaccinating and spay or neuter is for each dog €400.

“This does not include any other possible ailments they may have.

“For these 14 collies that have came into our care in the past 3 weeks that is a bill of €5,600.”

The centre has appealed for anybody who desires to rehome a collie to come back ahead or make a donation to assist proceed the work of the centre.

The spokesperson continued, “We actually need your assist in order that we can assist these collies on their journey with us earlier than they discover their without end houses.

“If you could donate to us, no matter how big or small, it will go a long way in our efforts to help combat the collie crisis we face, here in Leitrim.

“We have now made it easier than ever for you to be able to donate to us.

“This is a subscription service and texts costs €6 per month and Leitrim Animal Welfare will receive a minimum of €5.40 per text.
