Coastguard warns canine house owners to ‘hold them on a lead’ after two rescues in 24 hours

Sunderland Coastguard has warned canine house owners in regards to the risks of letting their pet pooches off the lead after being referred to as to 2 rescues in 24 hours through which the dogs have fallen down coastal cliffs.

At 9.22 yesterday morning (December 12) Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team have been referred to as to assistance from a canine which had fallen from the clifftops in Whitburn.

A spokesperson mentioned: “We labored alongside South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB) to rescue the canine which had fallen close to to Souter Lighthouse.

“We used our rope rescue gear to recuperate the cocker spaniel protected and effectively to his proprietor. He was checked over by a vet and fortuitously was not injured.”

The incident took place lower than 24 hours after Sunderland Coastguard joined Seaham Coastguard to rescue a stricken dachshund which had fallen midway down a cliff face in Ryhope.

The spokesperson added: “We want to remind house owners to maintain their dogs on a lead when walking close to to the cliffs.”
