A Co Antrim man has actually been fined and released with expenses after his unlicensed dog assaulted and triggered ‘considerable injuries’ to another dog.
Conor Craig, from Firfields, Antrim, was prosecuted by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council following the occurrence on November 17, 2022.
The court heard his dog, which was unlicensed dog at the time, assaulted and hurt another dog being strolled at Rea’s Wood. The owner of the hurt dog which needed veterinary care, reported Craig to the council.

Almost 9 months after the occurrence Craig pleaded guilty to all charges through his legal agents at Antrim Magistrate’s Court on August 7, 2023.
He was fined an overall of £125, and bought to pay expenses of £250. An overall of £150 of these expenses make up a payment order payable to the owner of the hurt dog.
Craig charges consisted of:
- £25 fine for having a dog without a license
- £100 fine for being the keeper of a dog which attacked/injured another dog
- £250 expenses payable for other celebrations consisting of £150 to the owner of the hurt dog.
- £15 culprit levy.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Mark Cooper said; “The Council places a strong emphasis in the investigation of all offences under dog control legislation. Incidents involving attacks on people and animals are investigated rigorously and formal action, such as prosecution is taken, as demonstrated in this particular case.”
