Sopris Theatre Company’s new play, “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time,” will hit Colorado Mountain College’s Spring Valley campus from Nov. 24-Dec. 3, based on a CMC information launch.
The present is a CMC student-and-community-theater manufacturing of the Tony Award-winning 2015 play, tailored by Simon Stephens from Mark Haddon’s acclaimed 2003 guide, the discharge says.
The performances will take place on the New Space Theatre, 3000 County Road 114 in Glenwood Springs.
The dates and occasions are as follows:
- 7 p.m. Nov. 24
- 7 p.m. Nov. 25
- 2 p.m. Nov. 26
- 7 p.m. Dec. 1
- 7 p.m. Dec. 2
- 2 p.m. Dec. 3
“The play, which tells the story of 15-year-old Christopher unraveling the mystery of the untimely demise of his neighbors’ dog, has long been noted for its accurate and positive depiction of a character living on the neurodiverse/autistic spectrum,” the discharge states.
The manufacturing was directed and designed by Brad Moore, Sopris Theatre Company’s operations supervisor. He stated he selected the play as a result of it affords a perspective hardly ever seen in theater.
“This season, we’ve worked on trying to open up to topics that don’t just place people in monolithic groupings,” Moore stated. “It’s clear to us that this show, and all of our cast and crew, is about offering their impressions — we’re not experts on the subject, but we are storytellers.”
The native actor enjoying Christopher, CMC pupil JD Edmonds, is himself on the autistic spectrum. Moore stated within the launch that he serves as an inspiring and entertaining power as he helps lead the present.
“He’s become a leader and is able to carry the show – he’s also so gracious and funny, as well,” Moore says. “He says that he loves doing this piece, as he’s able to speak on behalf of people who are dealing with similar situations to him.”
Sopris Theatre Company may also be performing the play at Aspen’s Wheeler Opera House in January 2024, based on the discharge.
Tickets for the Glenwood Springs performances are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors, college students, CMC college and employees, and are available by visiting coloradomtn.edu/theatre, calling 970-947-8177, or through e-mail at [email protected].
