CHICAGO – The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation is honoring extra of CPD’s fallen with a brand new memorial devoted to canine and equine service animals who died on the job.
The new plaza at Gold Star Families Memorial and Park was unveiled Wednesday afternoon.
The new plaza sits simply east of Soldier Field and options bronze sculptures of horses, canines and Chicago police officers.
The “Canine and Equine Memorial Plaza” acknowledged the primary 11 animals Wednesday, eight dogs and three horses, who died whereas within the line of obligation.
“It hurts to listen to the tales of division K9 King, Rex 3, Seger, Duke and Max [2],” stated Tara Poremba, Chicago Police K9 handler. “All of those courageous K9s sadly died between 1979 and 1989 after ingesting poison whereas conducting investigations. I’m sure that their handlers can be so proud that the service and sacrifice of those animals haven’t been forgotten. And I’m honored to be current right here right this moment to acknowledge this memorial on their behalf.”
The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation started fundraising for the Canine and Equine Plaza in 2019.
