DELTONA, Fla. – A Central Florida man was apprehended today after his dogs were discovered malnourished with bones extending and without food or water in severe heat conditions, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
Zachary Cain was apprehended Tuesday and charged with 3 felony counts of animal cruelty and 3 misdemeanor counts of illegal confinement/abandonment of animals without enough food or water, deputies said.
Volusia Sheriff’s Office deputies reacted to Cain’s home in Deltona on Tuesday night when Animal Control asked for help. Animal Control was at your home previously in the day to help after 2 of Cain’s dogs – Dolly and Buttercup – left their pen.

Deputies guaranteed health of 3 kids at house

After deputies and Animal Control left Cain’s house, a Volusia Sheriff’s Deputy went back to the home to drop off a bag of dog food. Cain’s partner shooed him away, calling him a “s***** police” as her child enjoys from the entrance.
“I simply brought you people food for the dog and now I’m a s***** police?” the deputy is heard informing the lady on the bodycam video footage prior to walking away.
The lady and the deputy went back and forth after the lady implicated the deputy and other reacting authorities of “the method you’re speaking about my partner and the method y’all have actually been speaking about my kids.”
