Canine ‘Cavalier’ Roo celebrates 1st birthday posing for yearbook image at Kiski Area High School

A Kiski Area School District remedy canine was prepared for her canine closeup Wednesday throughout image day in the highschool library.

Roo, a 1-year-old, deaf remedy canine, joined the Kiski Area workers in January after being adopted by Superintendent Misty Slavic.

“She’s the sweetest thing when she roams the hall,” stated pupil Camryn Kunz.

Roo celebrated turning 1 on Sunday with a pup cake and presents.

The yearbook workers determined to incorporate Roo within the 2023-24 college part of the yearbook, and Roo posed like a professional for her pic, Slavic stated.

“She’s not the first dog to appear in a Kiski yearbook. We had Sampson, a student service dog, in 1991, ” Slavic stated.

Roo would be the second canine to be featured within the Kiski Area High School yearbook. In 1991, a pupil service canine named Sampson was featured subsequent to his proprietor, and former pupil, Elizabeth Scutt.

 

Roo travels to campus weekly with Slavic and frequents all six district faculties.

On Aug. 24, the primary day of college, Roo mingled with numerous college students and workers, welcoming them again on campus, unfazed by the huge quantities of petting, consideration and hugs obtained from everybody.

This week, Roo helped Slavic move out Popsicles.

Roo is the district’s first full-time remedy canine and joined the workers in January. Slavic serves as Roo’s handler and pays for all of Roo’s care.

Roo was adopted from Tiny Cause, a nonprofit rescue in Vandergrift.

Slavic stated offering canine consolation on campus has been well-received by all.

“It’s great when you see Roo interact with kids that maybe are having a rough day,” Slavic stated.

Roo is totally deaf and responds at hand indicators.

“I wanted to help the students and this is a simple way to do it,” Slavic stated.
