Former Marine Alan, who is signed up blind, shared how helpful and caring his partner Jane is and wished to return by inviting a brand-new member of the family into their caring home.
As Alan would have a hard time to see an extremely lap dog, Wood Green Pets Charity was on the hunt for a larger dog with energy and the couple were presented to a lovable six-month old Lurcher name Peaches.
Speaking on the Channel 4 program, The Dog House, Alan said: “I got the hint that Jane wanted a dog when most of my Marine ornaments were replaced by dog statues and dog pictures. So, my daggers are now replaced by cuddly, cute dogs.”
Alan has 4 kids of his own so June was eager to have her own ‘fur-baby’. He included: “She’s cuddled with me for so long, she needs someone else to have a leash.”
Alan and Jane, who satisfied online, were all smiles when they satisfied their possible furry-friend however after a conference Alan was worried about him being too energetic.
Fortunately, the couple invited Regal Bassett hound Duchess, who likewise struggled with ‘cherry eye’, an irritated gland in the eyelid, into their caring hands who was a much better suitable for Alan – although he joked that she makes a “rubbish guide dog”.

Jane said: “I don’t think I’d every actually been in love until I met Alan. We fit, I couldn’t imagine not being with him.”
Alan reacted: “There’s a lot of misconception about what is blind. I can’t count the number of times someone has kicked my cane out of my hands. But Jane has always accepted that that is who I am. It is a major part of Jane’s DNA that she needs someone to care for.”
With the existing cost of living crisis having a substantial effect on rehoming centres, the program intends to highlight the predicament of the rescue dog.
The RSPCA is anticipating a possible animal rescue crisis as more animals enter into care and remain in rescue centres for longer, with less individuals stepping forward to adopt.
A representative for the program said: “All in all, it’s a quite dismal image. But Channel 4’s The Dog House, dealing with Wood Green Pets Charity, wish to highlight simply what a rescue dog can give somebody’s life.
“The new series follows the rescue dogs but also the kind-hearted people willing to open their homes and their hearts to a new four-legged friend.”
Alan and Jane said: “Duchess is settling in perfectly. She has fun with her lots of squeaky toys, likes her strolls and snores loudly when she cuddles up with us to sleep.
