A brand new marketing campaign to encourage extra individuals to select up after their dogs is underway in a pair of seaside cities.
Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge Town Council says canine fouling is a “widespread” drawback that is turning into a “severe well being danger”.
The marketing campaign is a week-long survey ending at Easter, and is being run by volunteer-led patrols.
They are marking any canine faeces with chalk paint to focus on the worst-affected areas within the cities.
The council says it desires to focus on the truth that canine fouling is a human drawback, and wish to see house owners taking accountability by choosing up after their dogs.
Mayor of Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge, Lesley Millard, says the issue poses a severe well being danger, notably for young youngsters.
“I dwell in Highbridge and it is crucial to me that we’re happy with our city and that we preserve it clear and tidy,” she stated.
“Dog fouling is destroying that absolutely, for everyone. We have complaints at each annual city assembly about canine poo across the city and the way disgusting it’s.
“This is why we needed to take up the marketing campaign, to say okay – let’s do one thing about this.”
Groups of volunteers are patrolling canine fouling hotspots akin to Market Street, Tyler Way, and Newtown Road.
Once it’s decided the place the worst affected areas are, posters shall be put as much as attempt to discourage house owners leaving mess behind.
“I really feel there isn’t any badly-behaved dogs, simply badly-behaved house owners,” Ms Millard added.
Simon Gradey works on the Burnham-on-Sea vacationer info centre, and says the issue is laying aside individuals from visiting the realm.
