BREC closed the Burbank Soccer Complex, the surrounding dog park and the fishing pond recently in preparation for the Southern Regional Championships.
The parks will stay closed through June for a multi-phased upkeep and rest schedule to prepare the natural grass soccer fields for competition play. Because the parks are not gated, BREC staff chose the very best method to restrict foot traffic on the soccer fields was to briefly close down the surrounding dog park and limitation access to the fishing pond, according to Lynley Ferris, BREC’s promotion and marketing supervisor.
There’s approximately 2 lots soccer fields as part of the Burbank Soccer Complex, and Ferris says that 4 more fields are under building.
The competition is anticipated to bring more than 250 groups to Baton Rouge at the end of June with a $22 million financial effect to the location. BREC is hosting the competition in collaboration with Baton Rouge Soccer Club. The competition was formerly kept in Baton Rouge in 2010, 2014 and 2019.
