An 18-year-old Baltimore man allegedly shot and killed his eight-year-old brother with a shotgun that he traded for a puppy.

Devin Wilson was charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday following the death of his brother Dylan King, 8, who prosecutors say he shot in the head on December 30.

Wilson was babysitting his four siblings at the time of the incident and initially claimed King suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Fox 45.

Police arrived at the scene to find a neighbor performing CPR on King and a weeping Wilson locked in a bedroom while holding the gun to his head.

At the time, he wasn’t criminally charged but was arrested for a psychiatric evaluation.

It’s unclear what unfolded in the home leading up to the shooting, but authorities said Wilson immediately called his mom to inform her King shot himself before calling police.

When police arrived at the home on Presbury Street they heard Wilson crying in the bedroom and convinced him to not shoot himself.

Authorities have treated the investigation like a homicide since the night of King’s death.

Investigators uncovered that Wilson previously showed an interest of purchasing a gun and went to a shooting range for his birthday, according to the news outlet.

Wilson received the shotgun used to kill King in a trade-off for a puppy but it is unclear who gave him the firearm.

Police said the shotgun exchange wasn’t illegal because Wilson is 18.

The teenager has been jailed without bail and is set to appear in court on February 15.

Loved ones mourned King’s short life and remembered him as ‘the sweetest child you will ever meet.’

‘His silly personality and welcoming snagga [sic] tooth smile could warm and cheer anyone up,’ GoFundMe family representative Rebecca Bishop wrote.

‘His care for others and the love he sent out into the world was infectious and our world is forever darkened with him gone.’

King was one of 12 siblings with eight brothers and three sisters.

Their relationships were described as an ‘inseparable bond.’

A GoFundMe set up to support the family raised more than $7,400 as of Thursday evening.
