Dozens of Living Animals Discovered in Dumpster Behind Fort Myers Pet Store
FORT MYERS, Fla. — Numerous live animals were found disposed of in a dumpster at a Fort Myers Petco store.
Sierra Brownlow found around 30 living animals, consisting of around 20 fish and 10 shrimp, inside a box in the dumpster behind the Petco at the crossway of U.S. 41 and Daniels Parkway on Monday night.
According to Brownlow, the animals never ever made it to the store’s aquarium. “They simply went directly from California, straight to the dumpster in Fort Myers,” she said.
Brownlow wasn’t aimlessly searching dumpsters; she was trying to negate a TikTok video she had actually seen. The video revealed a live parakeet being obtained from a PetSmart dumpster. Skeptical of the web, Brownlow chose to examine for herself and wound up finding a box filled with live fish in the Petco dumpster. She recorded her findings and published them on social networks.
Brownlow revealed shock at the treatment of the already departed fish that she discovered. She explained one bag as having actually been stomped and squashed to death. Anita Hernandez and Alexandra Ziegler, buyers in the plaza, were horrified by the mistreatment of the animals.
The fish’s desired recipient was quickly traceable, as they were separately crammed in bags with the shipping details printed on package. The box suggested that the fish were from Tropical Fish International in California and planned for the Fort Myers Petco.
A Petco representative specified that the business is examining the event and does not excuse animal abuse or the disposal of live animals. Petco staff members are needed to finish trainings and evaluations prior to dealing with animals, and the business follows rigorous animal care policies and treatments.
Brownlow hopes Petco takes proper action versus whoever is accountable for the event. Meanwhile, the rescued fish are now swimming in fish tanks at Sierra’s house and her friend’s, provided a 2nd possibility at life.
Sierra continues to search dumpsters near family pet shops, searching for any indications of life.
