Recently an argument occurred on a regional Facebook page about a dog that was permitted to bound approximately a kid in a playpark.
The kid was reported to already be frightened of dogs, and was naturally upset, as was their parent.
Comments were primarily in favour of keeping a dog under control in such a scenario. Worryingly, some were just ill-informed, with incorrect details about dogs.
One mentioned that the kid needs to not hesitate, informing the parent they must make the kid face their worries. One commenter encouraged not to take their kid to that area, rather uncommon considered that it is a play park for kids.

Looking at this from my scientific animal behaviourist and parent viewpoint works. I deal with dogs and individuals daily and regretfully, I handle evaluation of severe dog bite occurrences and injuries as part of my task. Over the next couple of columns we will take a look at the basic threats and misconceptions, and follow up with more conversation about managing our dogs in a favorable method.
Even dealing with dogs myself, I can value how a dog somebody does not understand can appear threatening. There doesn’t require to be a recognized worry.
In this case, the play park is near a roadway, the dog was off lead and was unresponsive when their owner called them. Near a roadway is the very first threat. Not coming when called is the 2nd threat. A dog off lead near a play park with kids is the 3rd threat. An owner permitting all this to take place is the primary cause.
Note: We mustn’t blame the dog, they are acting as dogs might do, however they were taken there and permitted to do so. We should likewise not blame the kid, nor their parent! They are at a play park for kids, with affordable expectation that their experience must not include bounding dogs. Victim blaming is undesirable.
Even if the dog’s intents got along, it’s much better to be a good resident. No matter what regional constraints and signs exists, it is important that when you are out with your dog, you bear in mind other individuals. And in this case, apparently the dog was welcoming, however it was still out of control. It might have been unintentional, however the law might not see it affectionately.
Dog laws are stringent about dogs being kept under control, and all dog owners should acquaint themselves with these laws, available online at the touch of a Google! You (and whoever is walking/managing it, normally) are accountable for your dog’s behaviour, any place that dog might be.

My caseload is not ‘scary dogs’ you see in the media, or ‘yappy snappy’ dogs you believe may be the threat. The genuine threat remains in us people not comprehending where the threats truly are. This is a severe and genuine, daily threat.
More about this next week!
