Alex Albon’s front wing appeared like “a dog’s chewed it off” after contact with Oscar Piastri on Lap 1 of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The Williams driver went three-wide into the 2nd corner with Piastri’s McLaren and Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas at the start of the race, tagging the left-rear wheel of the MCL60.
With the damage sustained preventing efficiency throughout the race and surpassing coming at a premium for the whole afternoon, Albon would end up just 12th, a position behind Piastri and 5 seconds far from Yuki Tsunoda, who finished the points finishers for AlphaTauri.
The occurrence saw Bottas ejected of the throttle on the outdoors as the track tightened up, with Kevin Magnussen’s Haas facing the back of the Finn in the meleé.
“It was three-abreast, Oscar had a car to his right, there was Bottas, so that was it actually,” Albon explained when speaking with media, consisting of RacingNews365.com.
“I don’t think it was anyone’s [fault]. There was a space, I was completely on the left. If I went any more to the left, I was going to hit the inside wall. So I do not believe it compromised anybody.
“If anything, most probably, I had damage on my front wing for the rest of the race, and my endplate came off. So I had slightly jeopardized [aerodynamics].
“It appears like a dog’s chewed it off, so we’ll need to see if there was any load problems with it.”
