TROUP COUNTY, Ga. – A Troup County Deputy Marshal was required to fire his weapon after being assaulted by an aggressive dog on May 17, according to a news release. The occurrence unfolded when Troup County Animal Control reacted to a report of a dog running loose in the Oakridge Drive location at around 8:50 a.m.
Upon arrival, the Deputy Marshal spoke to a plaintiff who notified him that a white dog of unidentified breed was wandering easily in the area and had actually originated from a home in the 2700 block of West Point Road. Another resident verified the details offered to the deputy marshal.
The Deputy Marshal continued to the residence and tried to reach the citizens. However, there was no reaction at the door. As he was going back to his vehicle, 2 more dogs emerged from the back of the property, showing aggressive habits with barking, roaring, and apparently advancing towards the officer.
One of the dogs then lunged at the Deputy Marshal, trying to bite him. He pulled away towards his vehicle, however the dog continued its attack as he tried to unlock for safety, according to the release. At that time, the Deputy Marshal shot the dog, which fled.
