THESSALONIKI, Greece (AP) — Three shepherd dogs escaped from their yard and fatally mauled a 50-year-old Greek lady in her backyard Sunday, police stated.
The attack took place at round 2 p.m. within the village of Neochorouda, about 16 kilometers (10 miles) northwest of the northern metropolis of Thessaloniki, Greece’s second largest.
The dogs had escaped via a gap of their homeowners’ fence about 80 meters (260 ft) away and ran to the lady’s backyard, the place she was working, police stated.
A person, who police stated is deaf-mute, was helping the lady with the gardening however was removed from her in the mean time of attack and couldn’t hear her screams. Neighbors ran to help the lady and pried the dogs away from her, however she was severely mauled and bleeding profusely. First responders who got here to the scene shortly after with an ambulance confirmed her demise, police stated.
The 37-year-old canine proprietor was arrested and can face a prosecutor Monday morning. The dogs are being held in a kennel and can be put down, police stated.
