The employees at Mayhew are so devoted and passionate concerning the animals and so they make you are feeling very legitimate as a volunteer. It’s a pleasure being a part of the group.
I’ve been round cats practically all my life… My mother and father all the time had cats and now I’ve two rescues myself – Tammy and Triby. About seven years in the past, I made a decision to volunteer at Mayhew and have been spending time within the cattery ever since.
My function within the cattery is to socialize with the cats. Every cat has a special character and I normally begin off by sitting within the cabin with them and speaking to them. This encourages them to come back over to me – it takes observe but it surely normally works. They need to work together on their very own phrases! I additionally observe singing to the cats. I believe they prefer it and I’ve had no complaints to this point…
“Pete is particularly good at helping some of our shyer cats come out of their shells and helping them gain confidence.”
Kayleigh Kilcommons
Head of cattery
Our head of cattery, Kayleigh, informed us “Pete kindly gives up his time twice a week to volunteer on the cattery as a cat socialiser. This role involves him interacting with the cats making sure they have company and providing them with enrichment during their stay until they find their new homes. One of Pete’s other passions is singing and you’ll often find a very content cat curled up on his lap while he’s quietly singing along to the classical music station we have on in the cattery.”
