(KNSI) — More than 100 cats were removed from a home in Crosby Thursday afternoon, and most of them were taken in by the Tri-County Humane Society.

TCHS Executive Director Marit Ortega says they received a call from another agency to help take in some animals. The care team worked for over five hours caring for and processing 93 cats through intake. According to Ortega, this is the largest case the shelter has ever had, and the team worked tirelessly doing examinations.

Fortunately, Ortega says they could take in that many cats at once with the new building.

There is a bright spot in this otherwise sad discovery. One of the cats was microchipped and reunited with its original family Thursday night after being gone for more than seven years.

Officials believe many of the other cats could be pets that had gone missing around the Crosby area. They are urging the community to check for their cat, and if anyone around there had lost a pet, it could have been in that home.

Ortega says the cats they have will be kept for the required five days, and the ones that can be adopted will be. In the meantime, they’re hoping for help from donations, fur-ever homes and potential fosters.

The investigation into the situation is ongoing, but police say they were tipped off to the situation at the home in Crosby, which led to the seizure of the animals.
