Prior to 2015, Ziggy required regular medication, and owner Sandra James was struggling to find anyone to look after the animal.

As a result, Sandra founded the ‘Cat Butler’; a specialist cat care business in St Albans.

Since its launch, the company has expanded to employ 10 staff and, since 2021, now offers a franchise model.

The cat lover is looking to take on an additional seven franchises this year.

Sandra said: “I was worried to begin with but thankfully the cost-of-living crisis hasn’t had an impact on my business at all.

“I’d encourage any other entrepreneurs who are considering a career change to consider a pet-related business as it offers a good work-life balance and there are lots of opportunities.

“Pets are part of the family and because of this most people who are able to will prioritise their spending to give the best care they can to their pets.”

The businesswoman joined NatWest bank’s free ‘Accelerator’ programme in March, as she looks to continue expanding her business.

She continued: “The NatWest Accelerator programme has blown me away so far.

“It’s been inspirational in terms of problem-solving and networking and I’m really looking forward to hearing the acceleration managers’ advice on how I can achieve the goals I’ve set for The Cat Butler.”

NatWest’s regional ecosystem manager, Luke Pamflett, added: “With pet ownership continuing to rise, start-up businesses in the pet industry can play a critical role in providing innovative solutions for the care and well-being of our beloved pets.

“It’s fantastic to be able to celebrate Sandra’s success to date and support both her business venture to thrive on the next stage of the growth journey.”
