The BC SPCA is looking after 29 cats and kittens after the owners given up them.
Eight kittens and 21 cats were surrendered from a Powell River property just recently, BC SPCA said in a release Thursday (June 22), after there were issues about the variety of cats on the property. SPCA included the owners “did the right thing.”
Fifteen of the 29 gave up cats and kittens would stay in Powell River. But to make space in Powell River, other cats and kittens needed to be moved to the Sunshine Coast animal centre.
The remainder of the given up cats and kittens were moved to animal centres on Vancouver Island. Four were required to Comox, 5 to Parksville and 5 to Nanaimo.
However, carrying the cats and kittens wasn’t without its obstacles.
Powell River animal centre supervisor Tara Daniels said it was a synergy.
After a ferryboat cancellation, the group’s only choice was to wait on an unreserved area on an approaching cruising, however the cats being moved to the Island were reclaimed to the Powell River animal centre while staff continued to wait in line.
Shortly prior to the cruising, the cats were reminded the ferryboat terminal prior to heading to their particular animal centres.
One of the kittens, now called Pinky, was right away required to a veterinary center. Two cats were pregnant and have actually given that brought to life 4 kittens while in the BC SPCA’s care.
“Many of the cats appeared underweight and had obvious eye issues,” Daniels said. “They are currently receiving veterinary care for their health issues including upper respiratory infections, eye and dental problems along with some congenital conditions.”
The cats and kittens are not yet up for adoption.
