SHELTON — A cat passed away and a family was displaced after a fire at a Ripton Road home early Sunday early morning, fire authorities said.
Firefighters reacted to reports of a garage fire at a home on Ripton Road around 4:20 a.m. Sunday, the Shelton Fire Department said in a Facebook post.
The department said first-arriving firemens discovered the home’s three-car garage up in flames, with the fire infecting the home.
“Crews entered the home to find very minor fire extension into the home, but extensive heat damage,” the post said.
Three grownups, one kid and a dog were securely left from the home, the department said. One cat passed away in the fire, nevertheless, according to the department.
The fire took about a half-hour to snuff out, the department said.
Firefighters later on figured out the home was “not habitable.” The American Red Cross is helping the displaced family.
The reason for the fire is under examination, the department said.
