STEVENS POINT, Wis. — Florence senior Evan Johnson is a finalist for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association’s 2023 Scholar Athlete Award.

To identify the leading 32 finalists, 4 young boys and 4 ladies were chosen — based upon both athletic and scholastic accomplishment — from each of the 4 WIAA departments. Johnson is a finalist in Division 4.

“Each of these remarkable student athletes has excelled in academics and athletics,” said Tom Shafranski, assistant director of the WIAA.

Johnson has actually made 9 university letters and is a six-time all-Northern Lakes Conference choice. He assisted the Bobcats win a baseball championship game while likewise making both group and conference MVP honors. As a senior, his group won championship game in football and basketball.

This year, more than 841 senior citizens were chosen for the Scholar Athlete Award, provided by We Energies Foundation and Wisconsin Public Service Foundation.

The 2023 finalists will be acknowledged at an awards event May 7 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Wausau, Wis.

The keynote speaker will be Anne Marie Anderson, an Emmy award winning sports broadcaster who has actually worked for ESPN, CBS College Sports, Fox Sports and The Pac 12 Network
