She included: “It’s a hard decision to make, but we’ve got plenty of things which need sorting out at home so we are leaving the country without Jingles. I still hope we will be reunited but it won’t be an easy thing to do.

“He is very loved and means the world to us. So please, contact me if you see him and l will find a way to take him where he belongs. We raised him since he was a kitten, took care of him under shelling and evacuated him from a warzone to a safe place. Leaving him behind has never been an option. He’s a family member and he should be with his family.”

The pair are still hoping to be reunited, but have had to leave Jingles behind to travel to Ukraine.
