An animal owner has actually been left frightened and with countless dollars expense after her cat was shot with an arrow by a complete stranger recently.
RSPCA WA is penetrating a severe act of cruelty after Appolo — a white domestic cat — was shot with an arrow after he left his Banksia Grove home while his owner was getting the rubbish on Friday.
After a prolonged search Apollo’s owner Alixandra discovered her furry friend with a scary injury to his abdominal area.
“I hardly know how to react to it to myself, it was weird and really scary,” Alixandra said. “As he came in the arrow fell out, I didn’t have to pull it out. I found the wound where it had struck him.”
After discovering him, Apollo was hurried to an emergency situation veterinarian in Yokine where he went through surgical treatment.
The arrow directly missed out on any organs and after some much-needed rest, Apollo is anticipated to make a complete healing.
His shocked owner said the harsh act had actually been tough to understand.
“Whoever came across him and did this they could’ve patted him and he would’ve loved it, but instead, my poor animal is injured badly and he could’ve been killed,” Alixandra said.
“It’s baffling people can do this to an animal, it’s scary.
“What if it hit a kid or person? It could have been so much worse.”
As Alixandra takes care of Apollo at home, she said the abhorrent act had actually positioned her under monetary pressure.
“$4000 backed up in vet bills is taking a toll considering the cost of living itself. I’ve had to cancel a lot of things in order to pay for bills.”
RSPCA WA inspector supervisor Kylie Green said the act was “sickening” which they were continuing their examination.
“We’d like to remind the community that it’s illegal to intentionally harm an animal,” she said.
“Pet owners in the area should be vigilant and keep their cats safely contained to their property where possible.”
If anybody has any appropriate info or CCTV video footage, or saw suspicious activity in the location on Friday 23 June, please report it to RSPCA WA online or by calling 1300 CRUELTY (1300 278 358).
The optimum charge for a charge of animal cruelty is a $50,000 fine and 5 years in prison.
